Find the Animal Sound

"Find the Animal Sound" is one of the most creative ways of grouping your pupils or students. It can serve both as an Ice Breaker or a short Group Dynamic Activity for all school levels.

Procedure:

1. Arrange students' chairs that would enable them to comfortably move around. Example, arrange chairs to form a circle. The arrangement could vary depending on the physical structure and the kind of furnishings in the classroom.

2. Prepare strips of paper with the same size and color.
3. Write down different animal names that create different sounds. This should be in accordance to the number of groups you would like to create. Example, if you want to create five members per group, make five strips of paper and write down the animal name "chicken", then, make another five strips with another animal name, so on and so forth.
4. Roll the strips of paper and put in a box.
5. The teacher should discuss the game rules:
  • Each student should draw one strip of paper. But they should not open the strip until the word "go".
  • When all have already taken their strip of paper, the teacher should say "At the count of three, roll out your strip of paper, and make the sound of the animal that is written in your paper.
  • Do not talk or make any actions
  • The first team who will be able to group themselves properly according to their animal sound will win and will get a prize (be creative in giving away prizes or incentives)
6. Have each student should draw one strip of paper.
7. Signal start of the game "At the count of three, make your animal sound, 1,2,3, go!"
